3D Art
When I was eleven years old, I saw a documentary on the making of Disney’s Aladdin, the feature-length animated film. They shared the making of the character Carpet as one of the first (if not the first) of Disney’s characters animated by computer. The concept fascinated me – until that point, I had never heard of using computers to create art, and the idea of such a thing – using what I perceived to be cold and calculating machines to create warm and lifelike organic beauty – set off fireworks in my brain.
That simple behind-the-scenes look at my favorite Disney movie (it’s still my favorite all these years later) started a life-long love of examining the relationship between computers and art, and also of 3D in general. I have been playing with what most would consider the beginner’s tools of CG; Poser, DAZ Studio, etc. But I believe I have reached the extent of what I can learn from these tools, and am looking to move forward with more advanced tools such as Maya, Blender, and 3DS Max.
